Professor Armin Delong

A Man of Science


    On October 5, 2017, the world lost one of its great scientific minds. It is with a heavy heart that we disclose the passing of Professor Armin Delong; a world-renowned physicist, Czech scientist, long-time director of the Institute of Instrumentation of the Czechoslovak Academy of sciences in Brno, and the founder of Delong Instruments. The always dedicated and hard-working professor was probably best known as the creator of the very first desktop electron microscope, which went on to win the gold medal at the EXPO58 World Exhibition in Brussels in 1958. He was a highly decorated scientist and earned himself various awards for outstanding scientific achievement. In 2015, Professor Delong was awarded a medal of merit for a lifetime of scientific contribution and pioneering work in the field of electron microscopy. This kind and humble man had an unwavering passion towards the advancement of scientific discovery and his legacy will always remain a strong presence throughout the scientific community. He will be sorely missed but forever remembered.
