LVEM5 installed at Qatar Cardiovascular Research Center
Qatar Cardiovascular Research Center has selected the LVEM5 Benchtop electron microscope to add to its research instrumentation. The microscope was installed at the Qatar Science and Technology Park.
Established in September 2010, the Qatar Cardiovascular Research Center was formed through a collaboration between Qatar Foundation (QF), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and the Magdi Yacoub Research Network (MYRN). Its leadership team include a number of distinguished international professionals from the fields of cardiovascular medicine and research. Qatar Cardiovascular Research Center has an ambitious strategy for developing reliable clinical, epidemiological and genetic data on cardiovascular diseases in the Gulf region.
The microscope will be used in work that isolates human cardiac muscle myosin filaments while preserveing the highly ordered pseudo-helical structure of the relaxed filaments. This process makes the filaments amenable to analysis by EM and single particle image analysis
The LVEM5 is the only desktop TEM on the market. The LVEM5 is also capable of preforming electron diffraction. The LVEM5 is capable of 1.2nm resolution in TEM mode.
The LVEM5 benefits from a 5kv electron source that means that you can visualize light weight materials such as biological tissue without the need for heavy metal stains. This is a huge advantage for users who want to get a greater understanding of their materials, and not their stain.
